
- Organized a 300+ paid staff group working for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics, in partnership with the Tokyo Olympic Committee.
- Transformed the organizational structure from a pyramid type to a self-sustaining and decentralized type, and refined roles of the board. Within this process, Haruo Miyagi, the founder of ETIC left the organization. We are currently shifting to a new leadership regime.
- Launched “774 (NANASHI)”, an online field learning program for creating zero to one, in partnership with Mondragon Team Academy (Basque, Spain).
- Launched “PLAY!” an online project coaching platform.
- Supports six non-profit organizations whose intention is to facilitate collaboration of municipalities, corporations, civil society organizations concerned with the issues of well-being of children and families in Japan, using the funds Related to Dormant Deposits.
- Began “Tohoku Global Challenge” as a cross-sector platform helping agriculture, fishery and food related SMEs in Tohoku go global. 31 SME owners are pioneering the Paris and Bangkok market with hands-on business support of Eat and Energize the East.
- Supports “Youth Co:Lab” Japan program, co-created by Citi Foundation and the UNDP, the largest youth social entrepreneurship movement in Asia-Pacific.
- ETIC and 12 large corporations set up a virtual company called “and Beyond Company” to promote cross-organization and cross-sector collaboration for creating a better future.
- Built a national network of school heads for discussing the future education system, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
- Started working with Phillipe Sion, the former Management Director of the FSG, an US consulting firm on social change, to organize a series of seminars for social leaders to learn about the practices of collective impact approach.
- Launched “Family Business Innovation Lab” for owners or successors of family businesses to evolve their businesses, in partnership with the Farmer Successors Network and the NN Life Insurance.
- Organized “Local Venture Initiative” to help leaders start ventures in the local economy by engaging 10+ heads of local city government across Japan.
- Held an one-day international conference for 100+ next-generation leaders in partnership with the World Economic Forum, which resulted in “Social Impact for 2020 and Beyond” movement initiated.
- Started working with Jeremy Hunter, Professor of Practice at the Drucker School of Management, to offer special sessions on self-management and mindfulness to the social leaders of Japan. So far 170 leaders have joined in Japan and Asia.
- Lanched “Yosomon” for matching business professional in cities and local ventures.
- Began providing 6-months of free coaching to social leaders in partnership with the CTI Japan, the Japanese branch of the globally recognized coaching training institute,
- Launched “MAKERS UNIVERSITY” “MAKERS UNIVERSITY U-18” as the Japan’s largest peer-support community of student entrepreneurs, with a mentoring and finance support of around 20 renowned Japanese entrepreneurs. In this curriculum, participants are encouraged to go with conviction and design their actions in an unconventional way. For over 6 years, 500+ alumni have been produced.
- Hosted “SUSANOO”, an accelerator program for social startups with a special focus on peer-mentoring and resource matching, in partnership with Taizo SON from Mistletoe. 83 social startups have been through this program.
- Launched “Impact Lab” program for executive leaders of growth-staged social enterprises and nonprofits to redesign the strategy and scale the impact, in partnership with JP Morgan. 20 organizations participated and they became a peer-support community.
- Began “Tokyo Startup Gateway (TSG)” in partnership with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, which receives 1,000+ business idea applications every year. For over seven year, TSG has become Japan’s biggest business plan competition and an important part of the government policy for developing entrepreneurship of young people in Japan.
- Opened ETIC’s owned web media called “DRIVE” to introduce changemakers and their actions for creating a better world. Until now 1,000+ articles have been accumulated. The website has also bridged social enterprises and 100+ candidates who seek for job positions in the sector.
Launched “CHANGE”, the Japan’s first low-interest financing for social business in partnership with Seibu Credit Union and Nippon Foundation. The program has offered loans and hands-on support for 50+ early-staged social businesses operating in Tokyo.
- ETIC’s founder Haruo Miyagi was elected as a Young Global Leader (YGL) Class of 2011 for the World Economic Forum (WEF).
- Launched “Migiude Fellowship Program” that dispatched young business leaders to SMEs in the Tohoku area disastered by the Great East Japan Earthquake. The fund was mainly covered by donations from overseas through the Give2Asia and the Japan Foundation. The program finally sent 228 fellows to SMEs in 38 cities of Tohoku, and 64% of the fellows stayed in the Tohoku even after the end of the 6-month program.
- Began “American Express Service Academy”, for founders and executives of social enterprises/nonprofit organizations to redesign their mission and service models. This program has lasted over 10 years and resulted in 400+ alumni network across Japan.
- Hosted an accelerator program called “Social Venture Startup Market” as the core employment related policy of the Japan’s Cabinet Office. It supported 95 seed-staged social entrepreneurs in two years.
- Organized “Challenge Community”, the learning and collaboration platform of community producers in 70+ cities across Japan, in partnership with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry
- Started our longest running accelerator program called “Social Entrepreneurship School Initiative”, a 8-months intensive training combined with mentoring and various other thematic sessions. It has fostered more than 130 social enterprises and nonprofit founders.
- Launched “STYLE”, the first business plan competition for social entrepreneurs in Japan. Its awarded alumni became role models of social change leaders.
- Certified as the non-profit organization.
- Named as ETIC. (Entrepreneurial Training for Innovative Communities.). - Launched “Entrepreneur Internship Program (EIP)”, which became Japan’s first long-term practical internship programs at venture companies in Japan. 2,500+ students/650 companies participated and 150+ alumni started their own businesses.
- Hosted “Student Entrepreneur Liaison Conference” with students from 10 universities aiming to start businesses.
- Founded as a student association of those who aim to become entrepreneurs.
